The Best Manufacturers Of Wholesale Natural Hair Products [Top 4]

Choosing the right manufacturer of wholesale natural hair products is one of the most important decisions you’ll face as a beauty brand owner.

But when a simple search for ‘natural hair products manufacturer’ returns over 96,100,000 results, how do you narrow down all your options to find the right lab for you?

At Genie Supply, we’ve done all the groundwork for you.

We’ve analyzed all the best suppliers of natural hair products and compiled a list of the top four.

Plus, we’ve outlined the pros and cons of each lab so that you can find the right fit for your hair care brand.

1. Genie Supply

Yes, we’re a little biased, but we can back up our ranking on this list.

Based in Bedford, Indiana, at Genie Supply we’re experts at formulating clean, natural, cruelty-free, vegan, and sustainable hair care, skin care, and color cosmetics for small beauty brands like yours.

Pros: We pride ourselves on being the go-to lab for entrepreneurs. Whether you’re moving from home-to-lab or starting from scratch, we offer support through our website, blog, and authentic one-on-one communication – guiding you through the early stages of your brand journey to set you up for success.

When we say clean beauty we mean clean! Many of our private label hair products exceed the strict clean beauty standards set by Credo, Whole Foods, and Sephora. Our hair care products feature innovative natural ingredients that directly target common hair issues including:

  • Rosebay extract for anti-dandruff benefits

  • Jojoba oil for hydration and shine

  • Fo-Ti to ward off the gray

  • Shea nut butter to smooth the hair

Not just another basic hair care range, in addition to our silicone-free shampoo and conditioner bases, we offer innovative products like our grey hair rewind serum, shimmering hair oil, and detoxifying scalp exfoliator - all of which are full of clean and natural ingredients.

We value transparency and list the full ingredient details on each product page on our website.

We make ordering samples so easy - simply select the sample size on a product page, add to cart, and checkout like any normal e-commerce store. View our full range of wholesale natural hair products and order samples directly from our website here

If our bulk / private label range doesn’t cover your hair care needs, we also offer customized products in the form of custom product creation and custom formulating. Take our quiz to find the right manufacturing process for your business here

Plus, we offer the most rewarding loyalty program in the cosmetics industry –  receive up to 200% of formulating fees or up to 150% of CPC fees back when you sign a long-term manufacturing agreement with us.

Cons: There’s plenty of room for us to expand our bulk / private label wholesale natural hair product range. We've launched some exciting new preformulated hair products this year, and we’re excited to continue growing our hair care line into the future.

2. Rainshadow Labs

Based in Oregon, Rainshadow Labs specializes in natural cosmetics and offers direct, private label, and custom manufacturing services to beauty brands.

Pros: One of this manufacturer’s biggest strengths is its professional and easy-to-navigate website layout.

The product categories are well-organized and easy to explore, and the ingredients and benefits for each product are listed clearly on the product pages. Ordering samples directly through the website is quick and simple.

Although the hair care selection is not as extensive as the skin or body care lines, they still offer enough private label products to create a solid core hair care range. Plus, if private label doesn’t cover your needs, they also offer custom formulating services.

Cons: A large percentage of Rainshadow Labs’ products contain ingredients that do not meet the threshold for ‘clean’ beauty at retailers like Credo. This is important to consider if you plan to market your products as ‘clean’.

For example, polysorbate 60 is a common ingredient across the website, including in hair products like their ‘Silky Conditioner’.

As explained by ULProspector, Polysorbate 60 is a sorbitan ester and functions as a surfactant in haircare - providing cleansing benefits in shampoos and conditioning benefits in conditioners.

Credo lists Polysorbate 60 as a prohibited ingredient on its ‘Dirty List’ under the Ethoxylated Ingredients section.

3. Wholesale Natural Body Care

Wholesale Natural Bodycare is a black-owned, woman-owned provider of natural wholesale hair products and body care based in the US.

They offer a diverse range of cosmetics from body care, hair care, and skin care, and even boast the original body butter recipe.

Pros: This wholesaler chooses natural ingredients with real ‘star’ power, including batana oil, rice water, fenugreek, and sea moss.

Not only are the ‘star’ ingredients great, but their range of hair products is vast and unique. For example, they offer a line of hair mists/perfumes, in-grown hair products, itch control hair spray, and hair products designed for kids  – much more unique than most wholesale natural hair product providers.

At Genie Supply, we also love to formulate using unique natural hair ingredients. Learn more about how to formulate a batana oil hair line at Genie Supply here.

Taking a closer look at the ingredients lists, a few key green flag additions stand out immediately. For example, they choose to use ‘cleaner’ preservatives like phenoxyethanol in their Sea Moss Detangling Mist.

Learn more about the benefits of choosing phenoxyethanol in our blog post here

Cons: Wholesale Natural Body Care is a private label manufacturer - they do not offer any customized products at all. If you want to build a unique range of hair care that is formulated unlike any other brand, this is not the lab for you.

The website is heavily disorganized and difficult to navigate. It may take you a minute to even find the haircare section from the navigation menu!

While they incorporate green-flag ingredients into their formulas, many hair product pages on the website don’t include ingredient lists – a definite red flag.

If you are interested in this manufacturer, ask for the ingredients list for every product and carefully assess it before you enter into any contract.

4. Essential Labs

Based in Portland, Oregon, Essential Labs specializes in natural skin care, body care, and hair care for beauty brands, and also features a unique line of ‘performance’ cosmetics designed for athletes.

This manufacturer currently offers 33 different wholesale natural hair products on a private label basis, with a focus on providing hair care for every hair type.

Pros: Essential Labs is a great resource if you formulate your own cosmetics. Not only do they host a blog with tons of useful formulating information, but they also sell 393 natural wholesale ingredients directly on their website.

Essential Labs partners with the Joan Morais Cosmetics School to empower brand owners to formulate their own cosmetics safely and legally. However, formulating from home is more difficult than ever in light of MoCRA. Learn more about how MoCRA could impact your hair care business in our full blog post here

This supplier includes detailed ingredient lists on every product page, with many containing an impressive variety of natural ingredients.

For example, Essential Labs’ Herbal Wheat & Oat Conditioner contains: chamomile, lavender, aloe vera, rosehip, white willow, green tea, green tea, nettle, chickweed, slippery elm, milk thistle, marshmallow, oat, and blue green algae. Plus, it also uses the ‘cleaner’ phenoxyethanol as a preservative.

Cons: Although Essential Labs has offered custom formulating services in the past, this manufacturer placed a freeze on its R&D capabilities and also states that its filling services are fully booked up until at least the end of 2024.

This lab is a good option if you formulate from home or are looking for private label services.
