Non-Toxic Private Label Skincare

Private Label Skincare

Private label skincare is a product that is formulated and produced by one company and then sold by another under a different brand name. Private labeling skincare can be a a great way to start a skincare brand at low cost because you are able to skip the time and costs of developing the formula and get strait into the process of producing and selling your product.

Although private labeling is an excellent way to save on costs and create a skincare brand, it can be difficult to discern the exact ingredients and their overall toxicity, because you did not formulate it yourself.

Clean beauty is at the forefront of the beauty industry right now and the public has become more aware of the products and ingredients they are putting on their skin and in their bodies. Because of this shift towards clean and non-toxic beauty, it may be a good idea to do your research on the ingredients and overall formulation of the private label product you select for yourself and your customers.

In addition to the overall growing market, the general benefits offered by non-toxic skincare are endless. Not to worry! Today we will discuss exactly how to find and detect non-toxic private label skincare.

Let’s go!

It's important to be aware that not all private label skin care products are created equal. In fact, not all non-toxic private label skincare is created equal. All ingredients have different levels of toxicity and to be considered non-toxic most cosmetic formulations will just have low levels of toxicity.

In fact, the Environmental Working Group has created a comprehensive scoring system that ranges from 1-10, measuring the level of toxicity (more on this later). Some formulations may contain potentially harmful ingredients that can be toxic to the skin and the body, while other formulations are created with all natural, non-toxic ingredients.

Common “Toxic” Ingredients:

So, what makes a skin care product non-toxic? Essentially, it's about avoiding ingredients that are known to be harmful or irritating to the skin and the body. Some of the most common toxic ingredients to look out for include:

  • Parabens

These are a type of preservative that are commonly used in skin care products to extend their shelf life. However, they have been linked to a range of health concerns, including hormone disruption and an increased risk of cancer.

  • Sulfates

These are a type of surfactant that are commonly used in skin care products to create the subs and that clean feeling. Many surfactants, however, can be irritating to the skin and may strip it of its natural oils, leading to dryness and sensitivity. There are non-toxic and clean forms of sulfates, however, but it can research to identify non-toxic private label skincare that uses these non-toxic alternatives.

  • Fragrance

Many skin care products contain synthetic fragrances, which can be irritating to the skin and have been linked to a range of health concerns, including allergies and hormone disruption. The key word here is SYNTHETIC. While those with very sensitive skin can still be sensitive to natural fragrance and fruit extract, using natural alternatives can decrease sensitivity and create a good smelling non-toxic private label skincare product.

  • Petroleum-based ingredients

As you may have guessed by the name, these are ingredients derived from petroleum and are commonly used in skin care products as a moisturizing agent. However, they can be irritating to the skin and may clog pores, leading to breakouts, not to mention the environmental effects of petroleum.

The above is a simplified list of the types of ingredients that can be toxic, but there are always alternatives to these ingredients that can be used to create a non-toxic private label skincare product. If there is a will, there is a way, and at Genie Supply we have the will. Our company was founded on the idea of clean and non-toxic skincare so we have formulated over 100 clean and non-toxic skincare formulations.

Enough about us…regardless of where you are looking to purchase non-toxic private label skincare, there is an excellent resource to use for your research…

Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Skin Deep Database:

Genie Supply EWG Ratings

At Genie Supply we have done the hard work for you, though. All of our private label formulas have already been evaluated and we provide the EWG toxicity score for all of non-toxic private label formulas on their product page. If you see this symbol, the formulation can be considered non-toxic. Check it out!

The EWG has created this amazing resource where you are able to search any cosmetic ingredient and find its toxicity score on a range from 1 to 10. Although it does have over 1000 products already in the market rated, you are also able to rate individual ingredients and determine any private label skincare’s toxicity score yourself.

Not only is this tool great for determining the toxicity score of potential private label formulas, it is also great for inspecting all of the product you use that may contain toxins. They even suggest product alternatives to reduce the amount of toxins you encounter on a daily basis. We suggest you take a look at this amazing tool and try it out for yourself.
