Blue Tansy Oil: The Newest Skincare Miracle
When you think of the color blue, what do you see? Is it a blueberry, the ocean, the sky, or your favorite shirt? I see the color of my bedroom walls, one side a dark tidal and the other a light frost (the Frozen franchise has its own blue hue). Now, what does all this talk of blue have to do with skincare? It’s a roundabout way of introducing today’s topic: blue tansy oil.
Rarely talked about, blue tansy oil products are on the rise. If you’re looking to try out some products for yourself, Herbivore has a Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil that works miracles on oily and acne-prone skin while Sonya Dakar has blue tansy oil in the form of a Blue Butterfly Balm.
Even as an essential oil, blue tansy oil has amazing benefits. You may have heard similar praise with other fun ingredients such as lemongrass, vitamin C, and sea algae. The difference with blue tansy oil? It’s super underrated and very new to the market. Of course, there are pros and cons, so let’s get started!
Blue Tansy Oil: The Basics
The formal scientific name for blue tansy oil is Tanacetum annum. Make sure you remember that name. It can get confused with Tanacetum vulgare which is common tansy and completely different. Before it’s an oil, blue tansy has yellow flowers and thin green leaves. Kind of like a puffed-up dandelion.
Once the blue tansy is steam-distilled (the process used to get it down to an essential oil), the gorgeous indigo color comes flooding out. Blue tansy is made of three key parts: sabinene, camphor, and chamazulene. Chamazulene is a natural chemical that’s released during the steam-distilled process which is where the blue tansy color comes into play.
Blue Tansy Oil Benefits
Here are 5 wonderful benefits to blue tansy oil:
Anti-inflammatory
As mentioned before, blue tansy oil has three main components. Sabinene, camphor, and chamazulene all have anti-inflammatory properties and are effective at reducing irritation. If you have sensitive or irritated skin, blue tansy oil may help! Some have said that if diluted with water and put in a spritzer, it can help with burns or work as a toner for your skin.
2. Scent
The smell of blue tansy as a flower and sweet, soothing, and oh so lovely as an oil. Because the scent is natural, it’s an added bonus for you, your skin, and your skincare products. Additionally, the fragrance works like lemongrass and relaxes you in a calming way.
3. Moisture
All skin types are suitable for blue tansy oil and that includes dry or break-out prone skin. Blue tansy oil can help bring and retain moisture to your skin barrier which means soft, smooth skin. Yay, you!
4. Natural Pigment
If you’re looking to sell at a clean company like Credo, they don’t allow pigmented skincare products. However, there’s a loophole with plant pigments that bring a natural hue. Blue tansy oil (obviously) turns your gorgeous skincare product into a dazzling sapphire without adding any bad chemicals!
5. Aesthetic
This may be more of an opinion, but there’s an aesthetic appeal about blue tansy oil. When diluted, the dark indigo can go to a soft blue like aqua. It kind of reminds me of sugar cookie frosting (though please DO NOT eat it).
Blue Tansy Oil Downsides
Blue tansy oil is promising and has a lot of potential. It’s on its way to being one of the most helpful skincare products ever. However, there is not a ton of research on blue tansy oil. Compared to lemongrass that has a long history of uses and benefits, blue tansy oil has only made a recent appearance in the last few years. With little research, it could present a future problem or it could make you successful.
It might be obvious, but you should also remember to NEVER ingest any essential oil and ALWAYS dilute blue tansy oil before applying it to your skin. Every blue tansy oil drop contains a high concentration that can be overwhelming.
Genie Supply & Blue Tansy Oil Products
The DIY way to use blue tansy oil in your skincare is to add a drop or two in your moisturizer, cleanser, body lotion, etc. But if you want to get started on introducing blue tansy oil to your skincare brand, then let me introduce you to some of our products!
Blue Tansy Oil as a Stick
I’m often prone to bug bites which means anti-itch cream all the time. Sometimes the feel of the cream lingers which isn’t always favorable. Luckily, our Hydrating Oil Stick allows you to use it anywhere you want without getting it all over your fingers! Add blue tansy oil for that natural blue I keep talking about and you’ve got yourself a portable blue wave. Simply apply directly to your skin whenever (wherever) for complete hydration, moisturization, and healing.
2. Blue Tansy Oil as Drops
Back to its purest form as an oil, let me welcome you to the Berry Hydrating HA Drops. HA stands for hyaluronic acid and that’s not the only thing featured. This antioxidant product will bring wonders to your skin. Originally a light green-yellow, blue tansy oil deepens it to dark green. These drops can be applied morning or night (after cleansing and before moisturization). Here’s a tip: use a jade roller to press the drops into your skin for enhanced hydration. Trust me, your skin will thank you.
3. Blue Tansy Oil as a Mask
You’ll see the Blue Lagoon Mask on our site when it makes its debut on March 1, 2021! This mask provides moisture, hydration, and works hard at increasing skin cell turnover. Perfect for sensitive skin, you won’t ever tire of this anti-aging product that smooths and softens years out of your skin. Scoop two dollops of this mask out and apply directly to your face. Massage briefly and leave alone for 15 minutes before rinsing. Despite its name, this mask is 100% clear. Once you add blue tansy oil, the cerulean color shines through.
4. Blue Tansy Oil as….?
Because all of our skincare products are *ahem* green AND clean, it leaves a lot of room for you to roam around! Blue tansy oil is a plant pigment and you can add it to any of our products for a soft blue tint. Literally anything. Give us a challenge, I dare you. Icy blue sugar scrub? Check. Sky blue eye cream? Check. Need I say more?
