How Long Does It Take to Manufacture Your Cosmetic?

So You’re Ready to Manufacture?

Say you’ve figured out what cosmetic you wanted and you’ve arrived at the manufacturing step. Now that you’ve made all the important decisions regarding the cosmetic’s creation, all you have to do is wait for the manufacturing timeline to finish.

No one can ever be as fast as Amazon delivery (or as unethical) and at Genie Supply, we care. It may require more time and patience than you’d like, but we ensure the freshness and quality of your product.

So...how long does the manufacturing timeline take?

After the onboarding step is completed for private label, we start the formulation and everything is made as it’s ordered. We don’t have a stock of beauty products ready to go in the back, we make everything fresh and ready to go for each individual client of ours. Typically, your manufacturing timeline will take 5-16 weeks and you’ll have your order.

As for custom formulating, once we give you the formula, you don’t have to manufacture with us! It is completely optional whether or not you want to continue your journey with Genie Supply.

If you do decide to manufacture with us, then it depends if you want us to do total turnkey (i.e. packaging, screen printing, and labeling) or if you simply want us to fill the packaging provided by you. The manufacturing timeline for custom formulating can take 2-4 months for total turnkey and only 6-8 weeks for filling the packaging you provide!

Regardless if you’re coming from private label, or custom formulating, here’s a step by step of the manufacturing timeline.

  1. Final Approval

To us, a manufacturing timeline involves more than just printing out your logo and slapping it on a box. We like to put more time and effort into our job. Once you select your packaging, you’ll send us our design. Then we’ll send you a digital mockup to approve. After that, we’ll move forward with printing.

2. Start Batching

Reminder, everything is made as its ordered and there may be other clients whose orders are in front of yours. Though we’re a small business, we promise our very best! Have no fear, you’re getting a better value for only a little bit of waiting time.

3. Testing

Time for in-house testing! USP 61 and USP 62 testing are post-manufacture tests that ensure your cosmetic’s cleanliness. We also may need to do other tests depending on your cosmetic. For example, if your order contains a CBD product, we’ll perform a CBD test.

4. Filling/Assembly

After testing, the projects are booked on the assembly line immediately. As mentioned before, there could be people before you in the queue which can delay when your product is finished.

5. Shipping

Once we’re all done, we’ll issue an invoice for the final payment or shipping. After it’s paid, your order is shipped out the next day! Hopefully, your order will arrive in 1 week for domestic deliveries or 2 weeks for international deliveries.

Delays in the Manufacturing Timeline

There are some factors that may slow the manufacturing timeline. The complexity of the project can slow things down simply because it’s a challenge (don’t worry, we love those!).

Or maybe the formula requires an extra ingredient and we’re waiting on a third-party vendor to deliver that special ingredient. Then there’s packaging or printing and shipping problems that can delay the manufacturing timeline. Shout out to all the amazing post office and delivery workers!

What does that mean for you?

Think of it as growing out your hair. When you’re dreaming of locks as long as Rapunzel, you can’t just grow six inches of hair in six days, weeks, or months! Not only that, but you have to make sure your hair grows healthy, otherwise what’s the point? To get the hair of your dreams, you have to put in the time and effort to maintain each and every strand of hair.

Manufacturing is one of the final steps in the cosmetics creation process before you dive into the marketing and business development side. The manufacturing timeline seems long, but it will be worth it. We only ask you to wait for a little bit longer with before seeing your finished product in all its glory.
