Choose Your Perfect Acrylic Cosmetic Jar
Choosing your cosmetic jar can be tricky, especially if you haven't explored many different types before! It can be eye-opening when you move from being a consumer to being a manufacturer--you'll notice things you never saw before, that were right in front of yours eyes. It’s never too late to start learning and we are here to help!
Although we no longer offer packaging services, we did for years, and we’re still experts in the topic! Here’s what you need to know about acrylic cosmetic jars.
Let’s go!
The Three Main Types of Of Acrylic Jar:
1. Acrylic Jar + Bakelite Cap
This one is made with fairly new technology. The best quality of all the jars, this acrylic jar comes with a special cap called Bakelite. It's not easy to break - which you can tell by the sound of it - and it's very comfortable to the touch with a it great feel. The jar itself is acrylic.
This kind of jar is the most expensive, because of the cap. It's easy for the factory to accidentally break the cap in the process of making them so this type of cap may help to cut back on losses due to breakage.
These jars can be a very high-level beauty product jar.
Let’s sum it up:
Pros:
Cap and jar not easily broken
Better consumer experience
“Luxurious” branding
Can screen/silk print or label jar
Cons:
Most expensive type of jar
Not as durable as some plastic cosmetic packaging
2. Frosted Acrylic Jar + PP Cap
The main difference between this jar and the previous one is the feel of the cap and the “frosty” look of the jar. This cap looks the same to first one, but you can immediately tell the difference when the cap is in your hand. It's very lightweight, and feels cheaper. The cap is PP material, and the bottle is frosted acrylic.
Regarding the actual acrylic jar, this one is frosted acrylic and it’s really a matter of personal preference whether frosted or regular acrylic is better for cosmetic packaging.
One thing to aware of when choosing between frosted and regular acrylic is the ability of labels to stick on the different types.
In our experience with a variety of acrylic cosmetic packaging, labels (stickers with product information and brand) do not stick well to frosted acrylic. You may be able to put labels on frosted acrylic jars, however they will fall off before or after leaving the factory and this could signal poor quality to your customers. For this reason we highly recommend only screen/silk printing on this type of jar.
Let’s sum it up:
Pros:
Jar feels and looks high quality
Less expensive than Bakelite cap
Lighter caps can reduce shipping costs
Cons:
Can only screen/silk print on jars
Cap has cheaper feel when handled
PP Cap is not as durable as Bakelite cap
3. Gloss Acrylic Jar + PP Cap
This acrylic jar is the same as the one above (#2), but has a gloss finish instead. This gloss finish makes a difference when it comes to labeling capabilities.
Like mentioned above, labels (stickers with product information and brand) do not stick well to frosted jars, but do stick well to gloss or regular acrylic jars. This is a good option if screen/silk printing is out of your budget, but you still want the luxurious feel of an acrylic jar.
The cap, however is PP material, which can feel cheaper than a cap made with Bakelite material because it is more lightweight.
Overall this type of acrylic jar is a good option for someone just starting out with a low budget.
Let’s sum it up:
Pros:
Jar feels and looks high quality
Less expensive than Bakelite cap
Lighter caps can reduce shipping costs
You can screen/silk print or use stickers to label the jar
Cons:
Cap has cheaper feel when handled
PP Cap is not as durable as Bakelite cap
