Support Women-Owned Beauty Labs

In this day and age, people are becoming more and more aware of several things in the beauty industry. There’s an increasing need to have clean, sustainable products, an interest in new ingredients like CBD and willow bark extract, and a call to action in supporting women-owned businesses.

If you’re looking to private label, custom formulate, or start your own makeup brand, then you need to find a good beauty lab to work with. We have all sorts of articles to help you learn how to pick a lab like “The Ultimate Clean Beauty Lab Guide” and “Perfect Cosmetics Labs in Texas (And Other Places).” Today’s blog is specifically for women-owned beauty labs.

Let’s get started!

Finding Women-Owned Beauty Labs

It’s kind of a man’s world, but hopefully, there will be more equity in the future. I found it difficult to find women-owned or women-founded beauty labs. Many beauty labs were founded by a man or are currently owned by a man.

Women-Owned Beauty Labs

Audrey Morris

This private label skin care and cosmetics beauty lab was created by Audrey Morris in 1965. Audrey Morris is credited as the founder and Mary Ann Lovre is credited as the current President.

Primarily focused on color cosmetics and skincare, this woman-owned beauty lab is internationally acclaimed. They require you to contact one of their sales representatives to help with creating your line. There’s no information on pricing, samples, or MOQ (minimum order quantity), but you can request more info using a form on their site.

Lady Burd

Roberta Burd created Lady Burd Cosmetics and has been the head of business for more than 55 years. Headquartered in New York, this woman-owned beauty lab has all sorts of products and colors for you to choose from for your beauty brand. With no MOQ, Lady Burd offers help for businesses of all sorts of sizes (big, small, etc.).

Color cosmetics, skincare, body care, and men’s care are a few of the products that are available for private label. There’s no information on pricing for individual products, but you can receive help after opening up an account.

Genie Supply - 100% Female Owned + Run

Though not open for quite as long as the other two women-owned beauty labs, don’t count this beauty lab out. Founded by Megan Cox, this woman-owned and run beauty lab is growing and cares about each and every one of our clients.

Our team is 90%+ women with all women-led management and over 50% POC and an over 50% LGBTQIA team. That commitment to inclusivity is what makes us unique, and the best fit for the founders of tomorrow.

Located in Bedford, Indiana, Genie Supply aims to provide clean and green beauty products. Whether it’s color cosmetics or skincare, we have you covered. We excel in creating products sustainable for the environment while continuing a luxurious lifestyle no matter the person.

Our MOQ is 500 and we offer a plethora of information for you in all you need to know about creating your own beauty brand. Even if you decide to not partner with us, we still have important information you’ll want to know and it’s available for public viewing. We love entrepreneurs and we want to see them not just grow, but thrive.

Black-Owned Women Beauty Labs

It’s no secret that the three women-owned beauty labs listed above are white. It’s sad to say the clean beauty industry (or beauty industry in general) has a tendency to ignore Black and brown communities. We live in a world of privilege which means each person faces different obstacles. White women face sexism and misogyny, but they don’t face racism. Black women face both and are often shut out of opportunities.

Kreyol Essence

Technically, this is not a woman-owned beauty lab, but a woman-owned beauty brand. Better yet, it’s a Black woman-owned beauty lab. The founder, Yve-Car Momperousse, also wrote an excellent article that everyone who is learning to unlearn should read.

Published on Beauty Independent, her article, “Clean Beauty is a Rich, White Club That Hasn’t Let Me In. Here’s How it Can Make Real Change,” is a tell-all into the clean beauty world. Momperousse created Kreyol Essence with the intent of making room for hair care dedicated to the Black and brown communities.

Frost Cosmetics

This woman-owned beauty lab specializes in manufacturing and several different private label services such as color cosmetics, nail polish, skincare, personal care, and more. Lakeisha Lemons is the owner and founder of Frost Cosmetics and started her business in 2012.

Frost Cosmetics aims to ensure that each and every woman can tap into high-fashion, cost-effective beauty products. This growing woman-owned beauty lab is centered in the Los Angeles area and has greater plans to expand into Canada, Dubai, London, and South Africa.
